Frequently asked questions about VPS
What is a VPS and how is it different from a dedicated server?
A VPS is an isolated virtual machine hosted on shared physical infrastructure. Unlike a dedicated server which gives you exclusive access to a physical machine, a VPS shares hypervisor resources while guaranteeing a fixed allocation of vCPU, RAM and storage. It is a good fit for light to moderate workloads.
Are CPU, RAM and storage resources guaranteed?
Yes. Each AlpineDC VPS is virtualised with KVM and resources are allocated in a fixed manner: the vCPU, RAM and disk space (SSD or NVMe) you order are reserved for you. You do not share these resources with other customers.
What administration access is provided on a VPS?
You have full root access (or administrator depending on the OS), a web console for remote management, and the ability to reinstall the system, mount a custom ISO and reboot the machine from the customer portal.
How are IP addresses and bandwidth handled?
Each VPS includes one IPv4 address and an IPv6 /64 prefix, connected to AlpineDC’s autonomous AS198385 network. A monthly transfer volume suited to the offer size is included, with extensions available.
What use cases is a VPS suitable for?
VPS suit websites, applications, test environments, lightweight network services and modest business services. For critical workloads, large databases or full hardware isolation needs, a dedicated server or colocation is more appropriate. Contact us to assess your needs.
